It’s more than your average ‘social media holiday’. International Women’s Day is a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements. It also dates back to 1911 and while we can also 100 per cent get behind National Wine Day (May 25 if you want to celebrate that one too), this one holds a little bit more weight.
The theme behind this year’s International Women’s Day is #BalanceforBetter. A gender balanced world is one that we can all thrive in. So, we thought in celebration of International Women’s Day, we’d share some women and organizations that are helping to balance the scales or inspiring us to be better every day!

She has transformed her battle with bulimia and yo-yo diets into a thriving business focusing on holistic health and wellness. She’ll also be on our stage April 6 and 7 to help you become the best you can be.
So much more than the Sole Survivor from Survivor: Philippines, Denise also works as a registered sex therapist helping clients to develop a greater sexual health. Together with Malcolm Freberg, she’ll be on the Chatter Fashion Stage at 2:30 on April 6.
No one plans to be a single mom, but The Nest is there to help if that’s where you are. They’ve adopted the age-old adage, “it takes a village to raise a child,” and will help you build a new one if you’ve lost yours. The Nest ensures that becoming a single mom doesn’t mean giving up your own hopes and dreams to raise your little one and gives you the support and community needed to have both you and the kiddos thriving. It’s for this reason that The Nest Calgary is this year’s charity of choice.
